Skin Care!

It is so important to have a good facial routine and keep it regulated, your skin is exposed to every element throughout the seasons of the year and you want to keep it soft supple and looking great!

At Stilo we use the Dermalogica range which is a fantastic selection of products dedicated to different skin types, we sell these products in store and also carry out face mapping for free with every facial.

Here is a Stilo three step essential skin care routine for you to follow, this should be carried out twice a day:

1. Cleanse - it is so important to cleanse every day to remove make-up, dirt and oil from the skin which builds up over the course of the day/night. A nice cleanser that we sell that you could try is Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution.

2. Tone - toning tightens up the skin and removes any excess cleanser left behind, this helps to restore ph balance in the skin. Dermalogica Multi Active Toner is great for this.

3. Moisturise - moisturising keeps the skin supple and soft and leaves a barrier to protect the skin from elements. You should try to use a day cream and a night cream these have different properties - a day cream is usually lighter although this depends what skin type you have.

We recommend that once a week to keep your skin in great condition you also deep cleanse and exfoliate it, this is great for keeping the skin clear and also for anti ageing.

Nail Care

Your hands are so important, you use them all the time without even thinking about it and maybe they should be looked after a little better so we thought we'd share a few of our nail care tips with you on this gorgeous Friday afternoon...

Firstly the best way to shape your nail is to mirror the curve of your nail base and cuticle area.
When you are filing your nail work from the inside out in a sweeping motion, do not saw at the nail this can cause it to split and weaken.
You should always use a base coat, this will not only protect and strengthen the nail but will also prevent discoloration/staining of the nail plate.
Rolling the polish bottle between your hands rather than shaking it will prevent air bubbles.
When removing your nail varnish try to use an acetone free nail varnish, acetone can dry out and harm your nails.
You should always moisturise your hands and try to wear gloves when doing odd jobs like gardening or washing up.

Waxing

With it being holiday season waxing is increasingly popular at this time of year, there are many benefits to waxing especially now that hot waxing is provided meaning the hair can be as short as 1mm and can still be waxed.
When you shave the hair is cut off at the skins surface so it will grow with a blunt end which is what makes the skins surface feel spiky, when you wax it is removed from the root below the skins surface, this means it takes longer to grow back and grows back with a tapered end meaning it will be softer and less noticeable.
It takes from 2 - 8 weeks depending on hair growth for the hair to grow back after a wax.
Wax can make hair growth sparser when carried out for a certain amount of time.

Beautiful Products!

We are lucky at the moment with so many gorgeous hair products on the market… the hardest part is choosing which one to go for!

We think you’ll agree that generally the best way to choose is to go for the range best suited to your hair type, however, right now it is a good idea to go for a sun range, especially if you are going on holiday where your going to be in and out of the sea, in the sunshine, in chlorinated water etc etc.

Facials

The History of Hair Straightening and Brazilian Blow Dry

Back in 1872 Marcel Grateau had a brain wave and used a metal rod heated on a fire pulled through hair to straighten it; from this moment onwards women closely followed by men have been searching for a way to create the perfect smooth, shiny, straight, luscious locks with the least damage to their hair! 

We’ve all got a friend or heard of someone who has tried the old brown paper and iron on a board in the kitchen trick. Another option is dousing your hair in extreme and harsh chemicals, damaging both your hair and skin.
